And in this corner the Sugar Weight Champion of Citytown, Shugar Roy Leon. He is lathered up in pure sugar and with every movement, the crystal powder shakes off.
Lita was once head of marketing at the Kane's Factory. She fell madly in love with Kane and resigned from her position so she could take up head bodyguard for him.
Poor Angus. It just never ends for this Level 1 Thug.
Good News! A programmer with Construct 2 experience has partnered up with me. His name is Rafael. Here is a short demo of our hero, Gil, up and walking and running. Doesn't it just make you want to live in Citytown (tentative name of the city)? Rafael has already added some great input besides his programming ability. The glow in the lamps was a greatouch.
The Two "Covers" or Game Start Up Screen are just some trial runs. I was going for the old Kung Fu Movie Poster Vibe. Those action images plastered in the background along with certain tie-ins splattered all around (hence, the various sweets), usually a larger image of the main character, and the not so glamorous font or borders were always classy in their own way. Probably should have added an image of Kandy Kane.
Started work on a new villain, Wallace. Looks like he is framing a shot, but low and behold, he is just blocking what would be a sweet foot to the face.
I continue to mess with pieces of candy. I'm leaning towards the smaller image. The other rainbow stripes is suppose to be a strip of taffy with the wrapper ripped off. Probably won't use that.
1 of 3 Health Bars I've been working on. The Rainbow looking bar is 1 of 4 I've been experimenting with for the Hyperactive Bar. It looks tasty, but I may go with another one where I added less colors on the bar.
Oh, and the little fruit loop on the side is Lemmy. He is a big lug. I was trying to make a pair of Zubaz pants, but what came out seems to work. Maybe, I could add some black zebra stripes for it to really hit home. His walk is finished and it's, well it's not the most graceful for this "Abobo" sized character.
I also have received some suggestions on the Park Level Background, so that is appreciated. Changes have already been made and I will agree, that it looks better.
Thought I could share bits and pieces of the story.
Mr. Candy Cane has been pushing high end sweets on the streets. This is causing all the kids to become extremely hyperactive, to the point the public is demanding Mayor Palinski to do something. With the Police Dept. using majority of their resources responding to calls trying to assist schools and homes containing the kids, it leaves Mayor Palinski no choice, but to call on drop out police cadet, Gil.
Testing out one of our little hero's moves. Maybe some adjustments to the speed, but I think it's a keeper.
This is Angus. He will eventually take a beating from you. Of, course majority of the villains won't be images of our Hero. Its just a nice template to work things out. Notice how the expression of pain is displayed on his face? Poor Angus.
Here is a mock up of the Delicious Store. Went through a lot of floor tile designs and this one seems to fit. I might change it to more multiple colors, might being the key word. If you look closely, you can see one candy shelf damaged with candy scattering. I put that in there thinking it would be kind of neat if some of the objects were interactive. Plus, collecting candy is necessary for this game.
This is a lovely picture of our hero in a block stance. Please take notice of how well he defends the rest of his body.
Working on a combo, but it might not make the final cut. Started creating store shelves loaded with sugary treats. They come in juicy red as well! Also laying out a vertical scrolling warehouse requiring our hero to climb and jump. Should probably make some boxes interactive.
Been busy trying to learn Construct 2. So, in between I've been drafting up various pixel art to try and complete the 1st level, the Park. Here is the city landscape built into the background.
I think the buildings look better than the ones from the 1st post.
Maybe you're wondering what the title has to do with a beat em up. I never did explain the premise. As mentioned in the previous post, or was it the "about" page? Anyway, Sugar High will be similar to Double Dragon (Nes) with some added humor and a little twist. Basically, Mr. Candy Cane has been upping the doses of sugar in his candy. Kids are becoming extremely hyper and running rampant in schools and homes. Someone needs to step in and clean the streets of these high fructose and Corn Syrup stickiness. Who will it be and what is his true motivation for getting involved?
